Borussia Dortmund's Europa League defeat to Liverpool convinced Henrikh Mkhitaryan to leave, it has been revealed.
The Armenian is set to undergo a medical with Manchester United in the coming days after a £26.3m transfer fee was agreed.
United made their move for Mkhitaryan after he rejected a contract extension with Dortmund.
Ruhr Nachrichten says Mkhitaryan decided his future was away from the Westfalenstadion following criticism of his performances against Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
They say that the former Shakhtar Donetsk star was ready to sign a new long-term contract with Dortmund but then told his agent Mino Raiola to find him a new club after the criticism.
Dortmund were knocked out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage by Liverpool having been favourites to win the competition.
