Former Ajax chief David Endt has revealed how Jan Vertonghen upset coach Henk ten Cate while tied to the Dutch giants.

The Tottenham defender was playing on-loan at RKC Waalwijk and actually scored in a 2-2 draw with Ajax.

Endt recalled: "He (Vertonghen) wanted to talk to me, I found that beautiful. But Ten Cate was racing. When Jan left the field, our trainer took to him verbally, he was outside himself and shouted: 'I do not want to see you again, you do not do this to your club!'"

"I told him, 'Jan, do not be afraid, you've just shown that you're good enough to play at Ajax'. As soon as Ten Cate left, it went all the right way for Jan."
