Tottenham twice attempted to perform a swap deal with Manchester United for Toby Alderweireld this summer, it has been revealed.
Alderweireld appears to have already put to bed his hopes of joining United after celebrating Tottenham's win at Newcastle United on Saturday.
"First game, first win! Let's go and win the title in our new stadium," he posted to social media.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News says United considered a host of centre-backs in the transfer window, including Alderweireld, Leicester's Harry Maguire, Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina of Barcelona.
And it is understood Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy contacted United about the possibility of signing Anthony Martial and Juan Mata this summer and United attempted to negotiate an Alderweireld compromise through intermediaries but failed before the deadline.
