Sevilla made a late bid for new Marseille signing Dimitri Payet, it has been revealed.

Marca says there was a chance the former West Ham midfielder could have ended up at Sevilla as the club's sporting director Monchi tried to sign him up.

With the player demanding a move and even going on strike, his future at the London club was very much in doubt and Monchi had looked to capitalise.

The details of the director's failed negotiations come from L'Equipe, who reported that he enquired about the possibility of a loan move, with an option to buy in the summer.

Yet a switch to the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan wasn't to be and Payet instead returns to his former club for 29 million euros, on a four and a half year contract.
