Harry Redknapp wanted Glenn Hoddle to succeed him at QPR.
But Hoddle followed the former Rs boss out of Loftus Road last week.
The Sunday Mirror says Redknapp recommended to chairman Tony Fernandes and Head of Football Operations Les Ferdinand that the 57-year-old take over.
But after a talk with Ferdinand, Hoddle decided to leave, saying it was an act of loyalty to Redknapp who had given him the chance to work again in the Premier League.
