Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos BLOCKED Antonio Conte's appointment as new coach.
The Chelsea manager, who is in talks over a release from his contract, was a candidate for the Real post before Julen Lopetegui was hired.
Real had made contact with Conte, but El Pais says Ramos moved quickly to talk president Florentino Perez out of the move.
Ramos had spoken to Chelsea's Spanish players about working with the Italian and the feedback was negative - which was relayed to Florentino.
In the end, the president went with the opinion of his captain and chose former Spain coach Lopetegui instead.
