Alvaro Morata turned down Barcelona before joining Chelsea, it has been revealed.

Don Balon says Barca made contact with Morata while he was contemplating leaving Real Madrid in August.

Barca were willing to table a €100m offer for Morata and pay the striker €15m-a-year to move to the Nou Camp.

But Morata, given the controversy around the move, could not consider the proposal. Nor was he willing to move to Barca without playing guarantees.

Instead, he accepted a €84m move to Chelsea, where he knew he would be assured of a regular start under manager Antonio Conte.

Morata and Chelsea will face Barca this week in the first-leg of their Champions League round 16 tie.
