Former Manchester United No2 Rene Meulensteen has backed their bid for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
Meulensteen admits speaking with Robin van Persie about their fellow Dutchman.
"Kevin Strootman is like Michael Carrick with a left foot," he told the Telegraph.
"Robin said he was developing well when he was working with the national team."
