Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho offered to DOUBLE the Real Madrid salary of Raphael Varane during a recent phone conversation between the pair.
It took personal intervention from Real coach Zinedine Zidane to convince the French defender to stay.
Speaking on Cadena Cope's 'El partido de las 12', local reporter Paco González revealed: "Varane got a call from Mourinho, who promised he'd be the leader of the defence at United and offered €10 million, which is more than double what he gets here.
"Who solved everything was Zidane, I do not know what he told Varane, but without his agent he did not ask for a single euro more to stay with Real Madrid."
