REVEALED: Man City rejected Van Dijk over price 'You can't be serious!'

Manchester City considered Virgil van Dijk before Liverpool signed the former Southampton defender in January, it has been revealed.

In the new City documentary All or Nothing, manager Pep Guardiola is filmed asking chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak, director of football Txiki Begiristain and chief executive, Ferran Soriano for a central defender.

When Van Dijk's name is mentioned - and his £75m valuation being discussed - Al Mubarak says: “Txiki, a central defender, come on what are we doing?"

Soriano then adds to Begiristain: “I told him about the price tag," while Al-Mubarak repeatedly says, “You can't be serious."

Van Dijk's move to Liverpool eventually saw the Reds knock City out of the Champions League in their run to the final.
