Manchester City made a late attempt for Paul Pogba last summer, it has been revealed.

Marca says the 23-year-old is set to complete a world record switch to Manchester United.

But the France midfielder could have joined City last summer.

However, the bid from City came in too late. Pogba had begun training with Juventus and then decided to stay for another year.

Next week, he will sign a five-year United deal worth around £275,000-a-week and become United's second-highest earner after captain Wayne Rooney.
