Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson reportedly broke the news of Brendan Rodgers' sacking to his Reds teammates.
The Daily Mail is reporting Henderson was asked to inform the playing group Rodgers had been fired with a source telling the publication: "Jordan was asked to deliver the news.
"There is sadness at the way it worked out with Brendan but an acceptance that it's football and these things happen"
While a number of players were disappointed to learn of Rodgers' sacking, it is understood there is also excitement amongst the Liverpool squad at the prospect of working with former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, who is the favourite to replace Rodgers.
"There is a belief that the new man can come in and provide an immediate impact," the source said.
Klopp is expected to be unveiled as Reds boss before the weekend.
