Liverpool were beaten by Arsenal to the signing of Alexis Sanchez - even though they tabled the superior offer.
Sport says over the summer, Alexis informed the board of Barcelona that he wanted to leave - which immediately sparked interest from across Europe.
Liverpool tabled an offer of €46 million for the Chile international, but Alexis asked Barca to accept the lesser bid of €42 million from Arsenal.
Barca directors agreed to the request, with Alexis being eager to work with Arsene Wenger and convinced by Arsenal's record as a consistent Champions League qualifier.
Alexis has scored an impressive ten goals in 16 games so far this season.
