Joe Gomez rejected the advances of Chelsea on multiple occasions before deciding to join Liverpool.

The 20-year-old made his full international debut for England in their 0-0 draw with Brazil on Tuesday night, drawing praise with a resolute defensive performance.

He has made 12 appearances for the Reds this season, but according to the Telegraph, he could have easily ended up plying his trade at Stamford Bridge.

At the age of 15, Gomez had the opportunity to join his Charlton teammate Kasey Palmer in making the switch to west London.

Charlton's former academy director Paul Hart also helped convince the defender not to join the Blues.
