Liverpool hero Mario Balotelli was the subject of nasty abuse while training at Melwood yesterday. The Daily Star reports the Italian was training with his team-mates at the club's Melwood training ground when a man began hurling a volley of swear words at the Italian striker in a seemingly unprovoked attack.
An eyewitness reported that the man pulled up outside the club's training ground, before climbing on top of his white van and then hurling abuse at a startled Balotelli.
Training had to be briefly paused, with the 24-year-old clearly distressed at the level of abuse he was receiving.
Manager Brendan Rodgers tried to defuse the situation before security guards stepped in to help move him on.
The eyewitness claimed he "had never seen anything like it before".
"Melwood is one of the more traditional training grounds," he said. "No high-rise fences and the like.
"Everton fans drive past and beep their horns, but this is off the scale of anything I've ever seen.
"He had a real go and it seemed totally unprovoked."
