Everton are wrapping up the appointment of Sam Allardyce this morning.
However, O Jogo says Everton only revived talks with the former England coach after failing to convince Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira to part with Rui Vitoria.
Everton tabled a compensation offer to Vieira for the Portuguese coach, but it was thrown out by the Benfica supremo.
Rui Vitoria's deal carries a €15m escape clause - but Everton's bid fell short.
And while Allardyce is expected to be confirmed as manager today - there's claims Everton could yet make contact again with Benfica for Rui Vitora before Friday.
