Everton failed with a club record bid for Chelsea striker Diego Costa late in the summer market, it has been revealed.

Costa is now in Spain finalising a move to Atletico Madrid after the two clubs had settled on a fee last week.

However, it could've been different for the firebrand striker if he was open to more options than his priority destination.

Marca says Everton made a massive €75m bid for Costa in the final days of the past transfer window.

Chelsea were willing to do business, but Costa refused to consider any alternative as he focused solely on a move to Atletico.
