Former Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac appeared to throw in his job before walking away.
Buvac had worked alongside Reds boss Jurgen Klopp for 17 years and Liverpool reported that Buvac left "for personal reasons" before their Champions League semifinal against Roma.
Details have now emerged suggesting the relationship between the duo has broken down.
The Times says the assistant had become increasingly distant at the club in the weeks leading up to his departure.
And at half time of Liverpool's goalless draw with Stoke, it is alleged that Buvac didn't study video clips with Klopp as he would usually do.
Instead, he reportedly sat on his own in another part of the dressing room.
It is not clear whether Klopp and Buvac can patch up their differences, which is a blow to Liverpool.
