Returning Gibson eager to rediscover best with Everton

Darron Gibson is determined to work his way back into calculations at Everton.

The 27-year old Republic of Ireland midfielder missed almost the entire 2013/14 season with a serious knee injury and has managed just five substitute appearances in the Premier League this term.

But Gibson, who joined the Toffees from Manchester United in 2012, feels he is close to full fitness and is eager to make a positive impact on Roberto Martinez's squad who have fallen to 12th on the table after winning just two of their past 14 league fictures.

"It's been frustrating because I had a good pre-season, but maybe it wasn't right and I wasn't fit enough when I came back in at the start of the season," Gibson told Everton TV.

"Mentally, it was frustrating for me but I've worked hard and hopefully now that's me back to my best.

"It's the best I've felt in the last 18 months, so fingers crossed [it can continue] and it's good to be back.

"I want to play as many games as I can, every time I set a target or goal, I end up breaking down again so I'm just going to try and stay on the pitch for as long as I can."

Gibson will be hoping he is involved in Everton's starting line-up when the Merseyside outfit head to London to take on third-placed Arsenal on Sunday.
