Martin O'Neill admits he will have a discussion with James McClean regarding his recent anti-English behaviour.
The West Bromwich Albion winger turned his back on the English national anthem at a recent pre-season friendly in the USA which drew criticism from all corners.
Regarding the incident, which adds further controversy to the Northern Irish-born 26-year-old, Republic of Ireland boss O'Neill says he will take up the matter with the player in order to prevent something similar occurring in the future.
"I'll hopefully meet him in the next couple of weeks and just maybe have a wee bit of a chat to him," said O'Neill.
"I'll have a wee chat to him and see how he is. I like James a lot. I like him as a player, and I like him as a person. I'll have a few words to him. Not in a paternal fashion, but as coach to player."
