Rennes chief Pierre Dreossi has confirmed their interest in Aston Villa midfielder Jean Makoun.

Villa need to offload Makoun after the Cameroon international failed to gain a new UK work permit this summer.

Dreossi said: "He's in Rennes, between today and tomorrow will have a medical.

"Let's see, we need to do a deal with Aston Villa and with the player, but his arrival depends on the sale of one from Tettey or M'Vila."
