Rio Ferdinand has not suffered a 'major' back injury, confirmed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. The England centre-half visited a specialist on Monday and could now return against Tottenham in the FA Cup later this month.

Ferguson said on Sky Sports News: "He's been to the specialist and there's no major problem with his back at all.

"We think he should be back for the Tottenham cup tie, it's just a matter of having a series of exercises to do regularly and that will hopefully help it."
