Didi Hamann is in talks with Championship outfit Preston North End.
The Mirror says Preston boss Alan Irvine is in talks with Hamann about a shock move to the Championship after he was freed by Manchester City.
The former Liverpool midfielder is interested in the North End switch despite a rival offer from QPR. Irvine wants new faces after losing skipper Paul McKenna to Nottingham Forest.
