Edy Reja was on the verge of resigning as Napoli coach last night after an amazing blow-up with president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Reja clashed with De Laurentiis at the end of yesterday's 2-2 draw with Lazio and informed his players that he was resigning.

However, Reja was taken aback by the players' response and chose to discuss the situation with sports director Pierpaolo Marino later in the evening. The coach emerged from the crunch talks satisfied and decided to drop thoughts of quitting.

However, there remains great tension at Napoli, which has been bubbling for some weeks.
