Reigning champions Gamba Osaka make light work of Shandong

Asian Champions League title holders Gamba Osaka got their defence off to a brilliant start with a 3-0 rout of Chinese champions Shandong Luneng.

Brazilian import Leandro netted in the 20th minute to give the Japanese the ascendency early and from there things never got any better for Shandong.

It wasn't until the 71st minute when Gamba struck again but they controlled the match and a second goal seemed inevitable.

It came through a penalty taken by Yasuhito Endo who was the recipient of a handled ball in the area by Shandong's Alejandro Cichero and the win was rounded out eight minutes later when substitute Hayato Sasaki fired home.
