Former Sunderland boss Peter Reid says Steve Bruce is the right man in charge on Wearside.

Reid is about to be named Stoke City No2 and said: "They have brought in an excellent manager in Steve Bruce and have also shown they have got real spending power.

"Steve's brought in the likes of (Darren) Bent, (Lee) Cattermole and (Lorik) Cana and they've now got a top squad. Just looking at some of the players they had on the bench at Norwich in the Carling Cup shows the strength they have.

"From our point of view it will be another yardstick of the progress we are making. Stoke's home form was fantastic last season and we will be aiming for more of the same."
