Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Keane was critical of Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer for his involvement in a collision that left Junior Hoilett needing stitches near his eye.
Late in Sunday's match at Craven Cottage (which ended 1-1), the Australian gloveman advanced out of his penalty area to try and deal with an errant Stephen Kelly header but only managed to take out Hoilett who was brave in his contest to win the ball before the Cottagers veteran.
The Canadian came off second best despite getting his head to the loose ball and was stretchered from the pitch in a neck brace.
After the game, Rovers boss Kean felt that Schwarzer perhaps should have seen red from referee Howard Webb for his challenge.
"When I spoke to Howard he said he just felt that even though Junior got the first touch Kelly was coming round (as the last man)," he said.
"But at the time it happened I thought it was going to be a red card."
But upon viewing the footage again, Kean was less negative towards Schwarzer, admitting it was a genuine attempt at the ball.
"If Schwarzer had not gone in for it in the fashion that he did, it could have resulted in a goal," he added.
"So he was going all out to make sure he got contact on something, be it the ball or our man.
"It was a good professional attempt from each of them to go for the ball."
