Referee Mark Halsey could be back in the Premier League about eight months after he thought he presided his final match.
Halsey was in charge of the Everton v Arsenal match at Goodison Park on the opening day of the season but following that he put his career on hold to begin a fight with cancer.
Since then, the 48-year old Hertfordshire-born official has gone into remission and is looking to get back into the refereeing game with a lower league match between Accrington Stanley and Barnet tonight.
If he passes that test, he has asked to be deployed in either one of two Everton home games towards the end of the season.
"Goodison is one of my favourite grounds and it would be special to start again there," said Halsey. "I'm just looking to get a Premier League game under my belt, so I can resume as normal next season."
