Redknapp: Tottenham need to top CL group to avoid Barcelona

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is desperate for Spurs to top their Champions League group on Tuesday night as a way of avoiding the might of Barcelona. But they know failure to win their final Group A match at FC Twente in three days' time could see them surrender top spot and risk drawing one of the giants of the game in the last 16.

"I think anyone wants to avoid them!" said Redknapp of the 2009 European champions, who were already one of his top tips for this season's big prize.

"It was just amazing; it was as good as I have ever seen.

"I don't think I've ever seen a better performance."

Redknapp believes Barcelona have proven it is possible to play the beautiful game in the modern era.

"It just goes to show you don't need big power," he said.

"Any little lads out there who are growing up, don't ever be told you're too small to play the game, because it's about ability, this game.

"Look at Barcelona with their players: (Andres) Iniesta, Xavi (Hernandez) - just incredible - (Lionel) Messi. Tiny little lads with fantastic ability.

"So, when you've got that ability and you can play and pass the ball, that's the way to play the game.

"Any little kids who watch and get told they're too small, watch that video and you'll see you're never too small.

"It's not about size; it's about ability and wanting to play."
