Former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp has taken aim at the club's transfer policy.
Redknapp wrote for the London Evening Standard: "Recruitment has been a major problem. West Ham were in a position where if they'd found a little bit of quality to bring into the club, they could have kicked on and would have been strong contenders for a top six place.
"Alvaro Arbeloa looks as if he's had his day. Havard Nordtveit wasn't up to it at Arsenal and gave away a penalty to cost West Ham a draw at Tottenham last month. Many of the players who've come in are not able to reach the same level as those who are missing.
"Andre Ayew was expensive at £20.5million and he's been injured. The jury is still out on whether he's worth anything like that kind of money."
