Redknapp reveals Tottenham's Woodgate on a downer

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says injury-ravaged Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate is at a low ebb as he battles to save his career. Woodgate's persistent groin problem continues to baffle doctors and, after a failed trip to surgeons in the United States, he was forced to travel to Australia in a bid to find a cure.

"He texts me all the time - he has been very low, obviously," Redknapp said.

"He is at a very low point in his life. He is stuck in a little flat somewhere and he goes to the gym all day doing his work trying to recover.

"Can you imagine what his life has been like? He has treatment all day and he is doing recovery work.

"They have kept him out there so we will have to wait and see." Woodgate had a hernia operation at the end of last season and underwent further surgery in early August.

He has only played three matches this season and some are saying he might not play again.

"He is a great lad, a top bloke, but his problem is that nobody can get to the bottom of his injury," said the Spurs boss.

"You are better off with a broken leg. Aaron Lennon had the same thing - they said he would be out for two weeks and then suddenly it is five months. It takes time and even now he has not played 90 minutes. Woody has had a nightmare."
