Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp feels Manchester United need a new striker to win the Premier League.
United have already splashed out £80m this summer to acquire the services of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Sergio Romero.
"If Manchester United signed a top-class striker then I think they'd be serious contenders for the title," Redknapp wrote on Kicca.
"I imagine they let Robin van Persie go because his goals to game ratio was decreasing along with his age and his injuries and they decided now was a good time to sell.
"I watched their match against Barcelona last week and thought they played well. Wilson is very good but won't, I imagine, be able to carry them up front next season so I reckon Van Gaal will be looking for a top striker and if he gets one then they've got a real chance."
