Redknapp lauds victorious Tottenham players

Harry Redknapp has heaped praise on his Tottenham players after their brilliant 2-1 win over Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Spurs hit the front through Benoit Assou-Ekotto before Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard pulled his side back with a penalty.

But former Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong managed a winner for the home side, delighting Redknapp in the process.

"I thought the game could have been over at half-time. We had three great opportunities. I felt we were much the better team at half-time," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"I felt if we kept playing the way we were, we would win quite comfortably.

"Liverpool came back at us but over the 90 minutes I thought we were the better side today."

Redknapp said Bassong could become an important player for the club and also hailed the performance of midfielder Wilson Palacios.

"Bassong can score goals. He is a fantastic header of the ball and I think he is going to be a tremendous player for us," he added.

"He (Palacios) is a proper midfield player, the type Tottenham have been looking for.

"He gets around the pitch, he can tackle, he can pass it, he has been superb since he arrived."
