Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits they were close to signing Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

Redknapp, who managed Tottenham from 2008 until 2012, has revealed he nearly signed Hazard, then with Lille, before he joined the Blues.

“I went to France and met him in a hotel room," Redknapp told BT Sport last night. “I was with him for three hours, that's probably why he didn't sign!

“I could have had him at Tottenham.

“We wanted him but the club didn't get the deal done."
