Former Tottenham star Jamie Redknapp feels Sunderland have taken a big gamble making Paolo di Canio new manager.

Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail: "Sunderland look like they need an injection of energy and belief. It seemed as if that positive motivation had drained away from Martin O'Neill.

"That won't be missing from Paolo Di Canio, who is a box of fireworks, but appointing him is a massive gamble at this stage of the season."
