Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp says Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez deserves his England call.
Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail: "He's a smashing lad and he is enjoying performing in a team rich with young English talent playing with a continental style.
"We should mention former manager Nigel Adkins, who signed him from Burnley for £7million. Jay is more polished now, but it was Adkins who spotted his potential.
"Like Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal, who is playing and training with Mesut Ozil, Rodriguez is benefiting from working alongside better players. Southampton have bought wisely and you realise quickly when expensive new signings arrive that you either improve or get left behind. Jay has gone up through the gears."
