Neil Redfearn is emerging as favourite for the Leeds United job.
Chairman Ken Bates and his board liked the way caretaker Redfearn masterminded last Saturday's 3-0 triumph at Bristol City, says The Sun.
They are due to discuss contenders to replace axed Simon Grayson this week.
But Redfearn, 46, looks sure to boss this Saturday's date with Brighton and could stay longer.
He said: "I'll make it tough for them to rule me out."
