Manager-in-waiting Neil Redfearn is still haggling over personal terms with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino.
The Mirror says Redfearn, who switched back to his role in the Elland Road academy after a successful stand-in spell earlier this season, is now the man Cellino wants to take charge following the dismissal of Darko Milanic last weekend.
But Leeds insiders claim Cellino won't get Redfearn on the cheap and his plan to seal a straightforward job swap has not yet been signed and sealed.
Redfearn is aware of guarantees that if he becomes the next manager to be axed by Cellino - who started the season with little-known Dave Hockaday in charge only to bin him before the end of August - he will be switched back into the academy rather than jettisoned entirely.
But sources at the Elland Road club believe the controversial Italian will have to offer the going rate for a Championship manager to clinch Redfearn's agreement.
