Sydney FC recruit Liam Reddy is setting himself to become the clubs number one goalkeeper.
The 28-year old former Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix gloveman will get his chance to stake his claim tonight when the Sky Blues take on Scottish champions Rangers in the second match day of the Sydney Festival of Football.
Sydney coach Vitezslav Lavicka has previously stated that he will choose his number one from the opening two games of the tournament where he will test both Ivan Necevski and Reddy in proper match conditions.
Following Sunday's loss to Greek club AEK Athens where Necevski conceded five goals in the 5-3 loss, Reddy is set to take all before him and secure his position as first-choice keeper with the reigning A-League champions.
"We've been alternating through the pre-season and now it comes down to this," Reddy told The World Game.
"I haven't come to Sydney to sit on the bench that's for sure. The club won the double last year and have huge aspirations again and I want to be a part of that.
"I am here to play. No club I have been at have I been content to play second fiddle.
"I'm really happy the way things have gone working with John Filan (Sydney's goalkeeping coach) and I'm a better keeper than I was with Brisbane Roar last season.
"I also picked up a lot in my loan spell with Wellington last season under the guidance of Jonathan Gould, so I'm feeling really confident.
"I believe both men have brought the best out of me and I'm fitter than ever."
