Peter Shilton believes Wayne Rooney will now kick on and become England's most capped player.
The Three Lions captain broke Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing goals record when he scored for the 50th time for his country on Tuesday night.
The 2-0 won over Switzerland at Wembley was Rooney's 107th appearance which leads former goalkeeper Shilton to believe that the Manchester United star will bypass his record of 125 caps.
"David Beckham (115 caps) got very close, but I think outfield players find it difficult to get those extra few (caps)," the 65-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I think with Wayne Rooney, if England do well in the Euros next summer and are a big success, that could be the platform for him to be involved for the next two years.
"He has already said that he doesn't want to quit and I think he's already got my record in his sights.
"But a manager after the Euros will obviously have to plan for the World Cup and Wayne Rooney will be 32 then. I think he'll go very close and, if he's in the plans for the next World Cup, he probably could beat it."
