Real Zaragoza have confirmed Jose Aurelio Gay will remain in charge to the end of the season.

Gay, the reserve-team coach who was appointed temporary boss of the first team following the sacking of Marcelino earlier this month, has convinced the board he is the right man despite a 6-0 loss at Real Madrid in his first game in charge.

"Jose Aurelio Gay is going to remain the coach of Real Zaragoza's first team for the rest of the season," read a statement on the club's website.

"The coach has told the club's board he feels able to overcome the team's current position.

"Real Zaragoza have held discussions and interviews with several coaches and the arguments of Jose Aurelio Gay, an in-house coach, were the ones that have convinced the club."
