Real Zaragoza coach Gay: Messi equal of Maradona - but quicker

Real Zaragoza coach Jose Aurelio Gay rates Barcelona star Lionel Messi in the same class as Diego Maradona.

Messi struck a superb hat-trick in Barca's 4-2 victory over Zaragoza last night.

"We have failed against a fantastic player. We fought far as we could. The team has not given up at any time and have been in the game until Messi decided it," said Gay afterwards.

"The game was exciting, vibrant, beautiful and we love the football we've seen from a huge player. Today I returned to seeing Maradona in his heyday but with more revolutions, much faster."

Messi is a great great player BUT in order to be in the same breath as Maradona he needs to spear head Argentina to a World Cup Championship Winners Medal the same way Diego did for Argentina in Mexico 86. But then dont forget Maradona also got a Runners Up Medal for Argentina in Italia 90 and please oh please dont get me started on the Klinsman dive. If Messi can deliver his Barcelona form for Argentina and produce a couple of World Cup Winners Medals, then and only then can he be compared to be a better player than Diego. A great player Messi definately is, but has he produced for his country what Diego has? NO! At least not yet anyway. But as far as role models are concerned, Messi has Diego beat hands down. Looking forward to The World Cup
