Real Sociedad midfielder Sergio Canales rejected a move to Aston Villa yesterday.
The Express & Star says Villa failed to complete a deal to sign 23-year-old Canales from Real Sociedad after the player rejected the switch to Villa Park.
Boss Paul Lambert had earlier agreed to sell midfielder Karim El Ahmadi back to his former club, Feyenoord, and lined up a move for Canales - an attacking midfielder and former Spain Under-21s international.
But the player was not keen on the move, meaning Villa ended deadline day with no new additions to Lambert's squad.
