Real Salt Lake believe they have unearthed a hidden talent in 20-year old Argentine Nelson Gonzalez.
The midfielder/forward is on a loan deal from Argentine second division club Quilmes Atletico Club with the option to extend the deal every six months.
Real Salt Lake general manager Garth Lagerwey and head coach Jason Kreis were highly impressed with Gonzalez and believe he has strengthened their squad.
"It's necessary for the system and I think Nelson is a tremendously talented young player," Lagerwey said. "We can see great things from him."
"We've always wanted to have a very deep roster," Kreis said. "One that is competing every single day for starting positions. We're there now, for sure."
Gonzalez said he was excited about the chance of playing for an MLS club and is looking forward to the challenge.
"It is a great opportunity," Gonzalez said through a translator. "U.S. soccer has grown by leaps and bounds. Very good players. A great league.
"Personally, right now, language is really the one challenge," Gonzalez added. "But on the field it has been great. I haven't played a game yet, but I'm ready to do so and take on the challenge."
