Real Salt Lake starlet Gil delighted to open MLS account

Real Salt Lake starlet Gil delighted to open MLS account Luis Gil said he was delighted to finally break his Major League Soccer duck on the weekend.

The 17-year old midfielder struck home a superb shot in the 44th minute of Real Salt Lake's 3-0 win over New York Red Bulls and he felt a sense of relief despite the fact it was only his fifth start.

"I thought, 'I can't let this one go. Get it on target and we'll see what happens,' and I got the goal. It's finally done," he said.

Gil said he felt comfortable at the top of the RSL midfield diamond and also believes his goal forced New York to come out in the second half with a different mindset.

"Playing in the midfield you obviously get the ball a lot. Sometimes you have a bit of time and get to have some fun with the ball and it just gets more and more comfortable," he added.

"It changes the game. It makes (New York) come out with a different mentality and it gives us a little more freedom. We still had to play our defense, but it made it hard for them."
