Real Salt Lake are set to meet Mexican club Cruz Azul in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.
The reigning MLS Cup champions have already been grouped with Panama's Arabe Unido in Group A but may face the Mexicans if they get past San Francisco, also of Panama, in a two-legged play-off.
The other clubs vying for Group A qualification are Canadians Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC, the winner of their clash to play Motagua of Honduras in that play-off.
The preliminary play-offs are scheduled to begin July 27-29, with the second leg the following week.
Group play starts Aug. 17-19, with each team playing the others in its group home and away to determine which teams advance.
