Real Salt Lake striker Alvaro Saborio has been named the 2010 MLS Newcomer of the Year.

The 28-year old Costa Rican joined the Royals on loan from Swiss club FC Sion during the 2010 pre-season and made an immediate impact for his new club.

Saborio scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 27 appearances, grabbing RSL's Golden Boot award along the way.

He netted five match-winners in a great debut season in MLS, and beat off competition from New York Red Bulls' pair Thierry Henry and Joel Lindpere for the award.
