MLS club Real Salt Lake went down 1-0 to Mexican outfit in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final last night. RSL managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Monterrey last week but were unable to add to their tally at Rio Tinto Stadium last night to lose 3-2 on aggregate.
Chilean international Humbert Suazo scored the only goal of the contest, in stoppage time of the first half, to lead his side to a famous victory to make it six in a row to Mexican clubs in this competition.
Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kresi admitted he could not quite believe the result as his side has a great record at home in recent times.
"A really difficult moment," Kreis said. "We haven't lost a match in this place in a long time. I'm confused at the moment.
"The game was lost in minutes 30 to 45. As I told the players last night, when you play a team like Monterrey, if you fall asleep for one play, they punish you. And that one play came right before the halftime."
Kreis said it was vital his players, and the club as a whole, were able to bounce back from this disappointment for the rest of the MLS season.
"From my point of view, we'll see what kind of people we are now," he added.
"You know, it's a really easy task to talk about how good everybody is and how happy we are and all those sorts of things, when things are going our way. So now we have this major, major disappointment; let's see how we respond."
