Reigning MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake have extended the deal of Argentine midfielder Nelson Gonzalez.

The 21-year old has had his contract extended by 18 months following an agreement with Argentine Primera Division club Quilmes Athletic.

Gonzalez will now remain at the Rio Tinto Stadium until the end of the 2011 MLS season and RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey was delighted a new deal could be done.

"We are happy to have Nelson signed up to stay with us for at least this season and next," said Lagerwey.

"He is a talented young player who works hard, and we feel that a further investment on our part will lead to continued progress by Nelson, giving him an opportunity to become an even bigger part of our team."
