New Real Madrid signing Rafael van der Vaart has played with a straight bat questions over the prospect of Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo joining him in Spain this season.

Van der Vaart signed for Real yesterday from Hamburg and said: "Ronaldo is a fantastic player, one of the best in the world.

"If he came it would be great, of course. But out of respect I can't say anything more about this matter."
